An American believed to have jumped off the 5th floor of a five-star hotel in Colombo died after admission to the Colombo National Hospital last evening, police said.
The victim was identified as 46-year-old John Edwin Goldstein Ryan. The Kompanna Veediya Police are conducting further investigations.Tweet

Two persons were arrested in Galle for allegedly capturing Black Turtles to sell for meat, Galle police said. The suspects were apprehended with 25 Black Turtles at the scene.

A watcher of a house at Bulugahagoda in Ganemulla was found dead at the gate of the house. Ganemulla Police conducting inquiries into the incident said the victim Kanthan Ganeshan (50) had his neck accidentally stuck in the remote controlled gate.

Galatasaray lifted the Turkish title for the 18th time on Saturday after a goalless draw saw them deny rivals Fenerbahce, but crowd trouble marred the occasion as tensions escalated amid an enquiry into alleged match-fixing. Flag-waving Galatasaray fans greeted their success with a noisy concert of klaxons as thousands descended on Istanbul’s Taksim thoroughfare.
But riot police had to deploy water cannon and tear gas to separate rival groups of fans as they exited Fenerbache’s Sukru Saracoglu as emotions threatened to get out of hand, the Anatolia news agency reported.

An inmate of the Welikada prison has committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday inside the prison cell, police said. The victim has been serving a 17-month prison term for various cases.
Police said the postmortem would be held today. Borella police are conducting further investigation.

Eight youths who pleaded guilty for possessing ganja sticks at the Galle Face Green on the Vesak Poya day were ordered to pay a fine of Rs.40,000 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate.
The eight accused had been arrested by Fort police.
