Vidyartha beat Bens

Vidyartha College, Kandy cut loose in the second half to register a comfortable 38 points (4 goals, 2 tries) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try) win St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena in their schools under 19 Division one segment ‘B’ rugby tournament match played at Nittawela yesterday. At half time Vidyartha College led 5-0.

The Benedictines did well in the first half to prevent Vidyartha College from running up a big score. They tackled hard and kept a tab on their opponents three quarters reputed for their hard running.

But they could not maintain the same spoiling tactics as their opponents adopted a different strategy using their forwards to breach the Bens defence.

For Vidyartha College their stand off had a good game scoring a good try and also goalled four ties to bring his tally in the match to 13 points.

The other try scorers for Vidyartha were centre T. D. M. Talwatte (1), prop B. N. A. D. Dissanayake (1), prop B. G. M. Suriyagoda (1), No. 8 M. K. Warnasooriya (1).

For St. Benedict’s College hooker Praneeshan Illangakoon and No. 8 Chirantha Mendis scored a try each and one of which was goalled by scrum half Sanka Abrew. Y. M. S. Ratnayake refereed.
