The table leaders St. Joseph’s College will start as favourites when they take on their nearest rivals Thurstan College in a vital Singer inter school Under 20 Division Two League Rugby Tournament match at Longden Place today.
Both teams will take the field with an unbeaten record and the winners will emerge as the Division Two League champion for 2010. Even then St. Joseph’s College have built up a huge lead over their opponents through bonus points that they could still afford to lose the game and yet win the title.
St. Joseph’s College have recorded some big victories in the tournament against Ananda College (34-6), Zahira College (78-10), Lumbini MV (73-10) Vidyartha College Kandy (49-18), Kannangara MMV Borella (42-6), Science College (34-10) and St. Benedict’s College (36-7). In contrast Thurstan College suffered a minor setback when they were held to a 24 all draw by Vidyartha College at Ratmalana. In addition they edged out Mahanama MV (13-12) and had the better of Lumbini MV (13-8), Ananda College (37-5), Kannangara MMV Borella (14-8) and Zahira College (38-12).
