Five IPL players suspended

Five domestic Indian Premier League players were suspended from cricket on Tuesday after a sting operation by a local TV channel highlighted alleged fixing and corruption, sporting authorities said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said the players were handed provisional suspensions until its investigations into the allegations were completed.

Kannangara Vidyalaya beat Carey

C.W.W. Kannangara Vidyalaya beat Carey College by 24 points to 22 in their Singer Leage segment I group ‘B’ match played at the Rathmalana Air Force grounds recently.

Kannangara score included two goals and two tries. Dinesh Lakmal played a superb game for the winners where he contributed with three tries along with two successful conversions by himself.

Solid SC in runaway 15-1 win

Solid Sports Club , Anuradhapura entered the second round of Holcim FA Cup by crushing Eagle SC by 15-1 in another exciting first round match played at the Prison ground last Saturday.

M. H. M. Haleem (7 goals) and T. D. Wijetunge (5 goals) together scored a dozen goals while M. S. Najumdeen (2) and M. G. S. Prasad ( 1 ) made it a tally of 15 goals.

Athulathmudali College in 24 -7 win

Lalith Athulathmudali College beat Moratu Maha Vidyalaya by 24 points (two goals, two tries) to 7 points ( a goal) at the Singer Schools Rugby League Division two Group ‘A’ match played at Piliyandadala Central College Grounds yesterday.

Lalith Athulathmudali side started to earn points with an unconverted try by G.H.L.Fernando.Two more tries by P.S.R.D.Silva were converted by T.D.K.De Silva which helped to add extra points to their half time score..Lalith Athulathmudali College were leading 19 – 0 at half time.

Isipatana – Trinity clash on May 20

One of the most looked forward confrontations in the schools rugby calendar, the encounter between Isipatana College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy will take place on May 20 (Sunday) at CR and FC grounds, Longden Place.

Isipatana scored two smashing wins over St Joseph’s (29-18) and Kingswood (35-5) in their last two outings having being held to a 19-all draw by Vidyartha in their first match.

SLC expects franchises for SLPL teams

Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Upali Dharmadasa said that they are hoping to include seven franchised teams and SLC has huge expectations on companies that would sponsor the teams at the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League. Dharmadasa said so at the official press conference of the Sri Lanka Premier League held at SLC yesterday.

“If we have seven sponsors and somehow sell these seven teams, we can have a very successful SLPL 2012″, added the SLC chairman.
