The two Romanian nationals, Preethru Marius and Gregory Edwards who were indicted by the Attorney General with withdrawing money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Wellawatte by using fake credit cards last year pleaded guilty to the charges before the High Court Judge Colombo, Kumudini Wickremasinghe and were sentenced to a suspended jail term of five years and fined Rs. 80,000 each, Police Media Spokesman, SP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer.
He said the judge ordered the suspects to repay Rs. 165,000 which they had withdrawn from the ATM and ordered the Commissioner of Immigration and Emigration to deport the suspects forthwith and not allow them to re-enter the country.

There was a time in the modern history of post war Sri Lanka, that huge demanding for IDPs in welfare villages be resettled immediately before the onset of monsoon rains. Obviously, there is no gainsaying that the displaced civilians must be helped to return home and rebuild their lives as soon as possible. But, before that, there was so much of groundwork to be done.
The Government, amidst tremendous pressure from both Opposition politicians and LTTE sympathisers abroad, stood firm and resisted confidently that the IDPs can only be resettled when the area is being made safe for them to live.

The murder most foul took place almost around eight years ago when three men armed with knives and clubs stormed into a house at Frazer Avenue, Dehiwala at night and killed the father, his young daughter and the son by stabbing them with knives. Channel 4 video is purely an emotional video made by the Tiger propaganda machine and the allegations in this are not credible enough to claim even in the basic check list for war crime charges, levelled at Sri Lanka, this was the contention expressed by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Netherlands Buddhi Athauda.Based in the Hague, where the International Court of Justice,International Criminal Court and Court of Arbitration are located the Ambassador said the Dutch government was not taking a serious view about unfound war crimes charges against Sri Lanka.
He said the Netherlands, is not a breeding ground for Tiger terrorism and will not permit Tamils to violate Dutch law and schools where LTTE ideology is propagated are under scrunity by the Dutch government.

A massive recruitment program has been launched to enlist Tamil-speaking men and women from the Northern and Eastern provinces to foster a good relationship between diverse ethnic communities, Police Media Spokesman, SP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer.
Fifty Tamil-speaking males have been selected as Sub Inspectors of Police to undergo training at the Police Training School at Kalutara from January 25.

Law enforcement agencies seized 38 kilograms and 558 grams of heroin last year and 14,431 persons were arrested in heroin related offences.

The two brothers who lived at a housing complex in Kotugoda Udammita in the Kuruswatta area in Ja-Ela was a law unto themselves which drew the wrath of other young people who lived in the same village.
The natives of Udammita especially the young men were terribly scared of them as they used to throw their weight around in the village and intimidated those who crossed their path. Eranda Silva and Prabath Silva were related to each other.

The Sri Lanka Police with over 82,000 men are not bound by any political influence in their investigations and are committed to bring justice to the people, the Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon said adding that the Department has implemented several programs to build the trust between people.
In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Observer the Police Chief said the Police would not tolerate suspects being tortured in Police stations when they are being interrogated. Police officers guilty of torturing suspects will be severely dealt with, he said.
