SMS message was a hoax -TRC director general

Director General of the Telecom Regulatory Commission (TRC) Anusha Pelpita quelled rumours spread by an SMS which warned mobile users to beware of calls from some mobile numbers saying answering the calls received from the numbers would cause serious brain damage.

Tissainayagam pardon has to be legally ratified

Lawyers representing veteran journalist J. S Tissainayagam who was pardoned by the president on May 3rd will meet officials of the Attorney General’s (AGs) department in the coming week to discuss his pardon said lawyer and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M. A Sumanthiran

From midnight, suppose you can bribe

The term of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption will expire midnight tonight leaving the appointment of new commissioners at the discretion of President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, due to the non-appointment of the Constitutional Council by the president himself.
In the absence of the Constitutional Council which is empowered to appoint members to the Bribery Commission, the president has powers to make direct appointments to the Bribery Commission akin to his previous appointments to the National Human Rights Commission.

We don’t need a CHAP

There will be no Common Humanitarian Action Plan for 2010, said Prof Rajiva Wijesinghe last week. The CHAP had fallen within his purview while he was secretary to the ministry of disaster management and human rights.
“The government’s position is that we don’t need a CHAP and we’re not going to have a CHAP,” he told LAKBIMAnEWS. “It is a coordinating mechanism introduced at a time when it was felt the government wasn’t coordinating as the LTTE controlled certain areas. The government now has control of all areas and the coordination mechanism is provided by the presidential task force. This is a very simple statement by the government that we don’t need external coordination because the internal mechanisms of the government are quite adequate.”
