IIFA not bowing to pressure

There is no change in the venue of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, which will be held in Colombo June 3-5, the organisers said Saturday, refuting reports of pressure from the Tamil film lobby to shift the event out of the Sri Lankan capital.

"We are not under any pressure. There is no change in the venue and we are going ahead with the schedule," Sabas Joseph, one of the directors of Wizcraft that organises the gala, told IANS.

Sivappu mazhai banned in Lanka

Sivappu Mazhai, a film that was made to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, has been banned in Sri Lanka. The film, which has the distinction of being made within 12 days, deals with a youth that has been affected by the Sri Lankan army. The youth comes down to India to kidnap the young daughter of a central minister to fulfill his demands.

Sivappu Mazhai is produced by Suresh Joachim, who also stars in this film with Meera Jasmine playing the leading lady. It is worth mentioning here that the movie hit the screens in Tamil Nadu a few days ago.

British rapper M.I.A's latest music video is being removed in some instances by YouTube, and labelled with an age-restriction in others.

The nine-minute long clip for new track Born Free depicts a number of gun carrying 'soldiers' executing redheaded people in graphic detail.

Akon may shift to Maldives

The Akon concert which was to be held in Colombo is likely to be shifted to the Maldives and the organizers of the concert are already having talks to that effect, sources told Daily Mirror online.

With the government rejecting a visa to the US R&B singer on the basis that one of his videos disrespected Buddhism, organizers of the concert are now in the Maldives in an attempt to have the singer perform there.

Concert likely minus Akon

The organizers of the Akon concert said they have sought government approval to go ahead with the concert next month minus the R&B singer as several other artistes were also due to perform at the ‘Super Fest 2010’ in which Akon was to be the star attraction.

“We are currently discussing with the government in whether we should go ahead with the Super Fest 2010. Akon was the main artiste but there are a few other international artistes who are coming into the country to perform as well. We need government approval to go ahead with the concert,” Lasantha Samarasingha, Director of Platinum Entertainment told Daily Mirror online.

Akon disheartened over events

US R&B singer Akon, who was rejected a visa by Sri Lanka to perform in the island over one of his videos, in a statement said he was not aware that a Buddha statue was even on the set of a popular music video which featured him and was disheartened to hear what had transpired in Sri Lanka over the video.
