The first ever advertising agency in South Asia to become carbon neutral, BBDO Lanka launched the first mechanical air cleaning billboard at Waters Edge Battaramulla yesterday.
Speaking to media Managing Director BBDO Lanka Santosh Menon said that this idea has the potential to revolutionize the scope of environmental conservation which filters certain harmful content from the surrounding air, purifies it and releases back to the environment.

Turning a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s duty free industry, "World Duty Free," (WDF)which comes under the management of Autogrill Lanka Limited, a subsidiary of World Duty Free Group was ceremonially opened at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA)yesterday in the presence of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited Chairman Prasanna Wickramasuriya and World Duty Free Group International Operation Director Pedro Castro. World Duty Free was earlier named as Autogrill Lanka Limited.
Italian Based Autogrill company, a world’s leading food, beverages and retail services provider brought over three international duty free operators namely, World Duty Free, Aldeasa and Alfa and combined these three companies by establishing the "World Duty Free" brand name. World Duty Free, is also on the look out to open another store at the Mattala International Airport in Hambantota. Autogrill Lanka Limited, Marketing Manager Chaminda Weerathunga told Daily News Business.

Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd (LHI) signed a MoU with a Dubai based firm, Arab Experts Engineering Consultants recently (AREX), to collaborate with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in the field of designs.
LHI CEO, H. N. R. Perera told Daily News Business that LHI hopes to expand its area in terms of coastal protection, port and fishery harbour, water supply and sewerage projects, in GCC countries namely UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Sri Lanka is expected to sell 650,000 personnel computers by 2014. Consumers are now aware of the latest IT developments and are also aware of outdated technology. This is clearly shown with the increase in consumer interest and sales of notebooks over desktops over the past year. Tourist arrivals have shown an 18% increase for the first quarter as against the previous year. The total arrivals for the first quarter stood at 330,116. This figure was at 278,959 in 2011 April.
The April arrivals have shown a 9% increase with 69,591 tourists visiting the country last month.

Colombo Bourse ended on positive territory yesterday for the third consecutive day with indices recording significant gains. ASI jumped 87.82 points (+1.7%) to 5,213.68 while MPI closed at 4,683.43, a gain of 66.54 points (+1.4%).
The turnover levels reached week high of Rs. 542.5 million. Only 19 counters witnessed price depreciations yesterday.

India’s rupee hit a record low against the dollar on Wednesday and stocks fell nearly two percent, as uncertainty over the eurozone debt crisis and weak domestic indicators hit Asia’s third-largest economy.
The Indian unit fell to 54.43 rupees to the dollar in early afternoon, breaching its previous intraday lifetime low of 54.30 struck on December 15.
